Morning Drizzle

Nylon fabric
spread above me like bats’ wings
reject the tears wept
by a somber sky

Water pours
from the thin membrane
and drips into shallow puddles
coarsely reflecting heaven’s sorrow
through the manufactured spectrum
of a petrol sheen

Thin metal fingers end in angry points
clawing and tearing
at interlopers who stray too close
stealing my dry space
as I step from puddle
to soapy puddle
